A glimpse into the person behind the stories.
My grandfather loved reading newspapers.
When I was still in primary school, I once asked him why he loved reading the newspaper and then still watched the news afterwards. His answer stayed with me.
He told me that during the unfortunate era of apartheid, the media became their voice. Journalists told the stories of what was happening in the streets.
They risked their lives, not by physically fighting the oppressors, but through their words, their reporting and their courage to tell the truth.
It touched me deeply.
From that moment, I always knew that whatever I became in life, I wanted to fight for those whose voices often go unheard. Looking back now, I sometimes wonder: did I truly choose journalism, or did journalism choose me?
What began as curiosity slowly became purpose. And purpose became passion.
Today, I am driven by curiosity, fuelled by purpose and committed to telling stories that matter.
To leave an impact beyond the headline.
