The OQ Edit is an independent editorial platform by South African journalist Oratile Mashilo.

Oratile is a journalist with a BA in Media Studies from Eduvos and a BA Honours in Media Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA).

She is passionate about impactful storytelling and committed to ethical journalism. 

The OQ Edit also creates space for conversations around mental health, mental illness, stigma, emotional wellbeing and lived experiences.

Through personal reflections, awareness pieces and advocacy-driven storytelling, the platform aims to contribute to more open and honest conversations about mental health while challenging the stigma that often surrounds it.

It is a space where journalism meets lived experience — telling stories that inform, question, connect and, where possible, make difficult conversations a little easier to have.

Oratile Q Mashilo is a South African journalist and media professional passionate about impactful storytelling, digital media and conversations that matter. Her work spans journalism, opinion, commentary, multimedia and mental-health awareness. She is the founder of The OQ Edit, an independent editorial platform exploring stories beyond the headline.
